From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence. Independence Day at Missouri Town Living History Museum opens at 9:00 am, with a traditional parade at noon, children’s games, patriotic speeches, and interpretive activities. Independence, MO, is also home to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum. This newly renovated space walks you through the life and legacy of America’s 33rd president.
From Overland Park to Paola, Kansas, the Sunflower State knows how to celebrate America’s independence. Overland Parks’s Star Spangled Spectacular, located at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park, begins at 5:00 pm showcasing local food trucks and music, with fireworks starting at 10:00 pm. We saved the best for last! Kansas City’s official Independence Day celebration begins at 3:00 pm on and around the lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial. This iconic Stars and Stripes Picnic includes local vendors and live entertainment, followed by a spectacular firework display beginning at 9:40 pm.
